Ironstone advice sessions - Weldricks Pharmacy and Healthwatch working together

06/03/2014

Healthwatch North Lincolnshire is working with Weldricks Pharmacy at the Ironstone Centre in Scunthorpe to provide a free "drop in" advice sessions at The Ironstone Health Centre for members of local especially people from the black and minority ethnic communities.

Every Friday during March starting on the 7th March, a dedicated pharmacist will be available between 2pm and 4pm in the pharmacy’s private consulting room to discuss any Weldricks Pharmacy at the Ironstone Centre Scunthorpehealth concerns you might have and to listen to what you have to say about your local pharmacy (health) services.   No appointment is necessary just ask to speak to the pharmacist.

Dale McVeigh, Pharmacist for Weldricks Pharmacy says “Weldricks Pharmacy and Healthwatch North Lincolnshire are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the community surrounding the Ironstone Health Centre on West Street.   Since the opening of the Centre in 2011 is has become clear that the pharmacy services are very rarely used by some sections of the local community.   It is important for the health and wellbeing of the local population that we understand what services you require and we want to hear what problems, if any, prevent you from seeking health advice. “

Farzana Khanum, Delivery Manager for Healthwatch North Lincolnshire, encourages members of the BME communities in taking this opportunity in attending this advice clinic, she said " there are certain health conditions that are high amongst these particular communities and many people are unaware that advice is available on the medication they are taking.  Many members of the community wait until they get a doctor's appointment to discuss health issues or medication and have said at times it is difficult to get an appointment to see their GP, so this service provided by the pharmacy can also help release some of that anxiety that is being built up and also discuss any concerns they may chave regarding their current medication.  But if you can't make Friday afternoons or don't live near the Ironstone Centre it is always worth dropping into your local pharmacy for advice on your medication or how to treat minor ailments."

The Ironstone Centre opened its doors on West Street, Scunthorpe in 2011.   It is a modern and well equipped Health Centre providing a wide range of health services to the local community with extended opening hours,  the pharmacy is open 8am-8pm, 365 days a year.
