Why do people choose to go to A&E?

24/06/2015

Why do people choose to visit the Accident & Emergency department in a hospital?  Are the visits a consequence of either accidents or emergencies?  Or is it that they can't get an appointment with their GP, if they have one?  Is it about access and availability to advice or treatment that is an issue?

As a result of mounting pressures on A&S services nationally and locally Healthwatch North Lincolnshire were keen to understand what caused people to make the decisions they did about visiting A&E at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The findings are available in the recently recently published "Understanding Why Patients Choose to Attend the Emergency Centre".  Read the report here.

If you have had a recent experience involving A&E, fill in the section on our survey and let us know.
