New hospital parking charges from September

21/08/2018

Patients and visitors to hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole are being reminded that revised car parking charges are being introduced this autumn.

Parking charges at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust will increase by 10p from September 1 2018.

The increases were announced last summer as part of the Trust’s updated car parking and traffic management policy, which details a 10 pence increase each year from September 2017 to September 2021.

Disabled users will not be affected as the £2.00 fixed rate tariff for blue badge holders will remain the same price and existing concessions for long term users and cancer patients will continue unchanged.

In the last year the Trust has invested heavily in car parking services with new parking machines installed at all three hospitals giving a full range of payment options including contactless, card, cash and app payments.

Jug Johal, director of estates and facilities, said: “We have made a number of improvements over the last year to improve access to our car parks including the introduction of automatic number plate recognition technology, new payment machines with increased options for how to pay and at Goole we installed a pay-on-exit barrier at the request of patients and visitors.”

“The majority of the money we receive in fees from drivers is invested to pay for security and maintenance of our parking services to keep patients and staff safe while on our sites. Any surplus is used directly for patient care across the Trust.”

The park and ride facility for Scunthorpe hospital, run via the Hornsby number 9 service, will continue to run and its price remains fixed at 50p per person each way.

The Trust recieves no central funding to provide car parking and security services. It therefore needs to charge for car parking otherwise money allocated for patient care would be spent on maintenance.
