NEW UPDATE 19.03.2020 - Coronavirus and Ibuprofen:

Conflicting information regarding the use of ibuprofen when suffering with Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been circulating over the last few days.

In a news article by the BBC (17.03.2020), it has now been stated that medical professionals do NOT advise taking ibuprofen for managing symptoms of Coronavirus, such as a high tempterature.

Whilst there is not enough evidence to suggest that ibuprofen can increase the severity or length of time an individual has the virus for, the NHS website now states that "...until we have more information, take paracetamol to treat the symptoms of coronavirus, unless your doctor has told you paracetamol is not suitable for you."

However, those people who are already taking the medication as advised by their doctor for a pre-existing condition, should NOT stop taking it, and should instead continue with their normal doseage unless informed otherwise by their GP.

If you are currently taking ibuprofen and are unsure as to whether you should continue to do so, please call your GP practice and ask for further advice. Do not stop taking the medication without professional advice first.
