Industrial action by junior doctors
We have been advised by NLaG of the following action:
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced industrial action involving junior doctors will take place on the following dates:
Emergency care only between 8am on Tuesday January 12 and 8am on Wednesday January 13 (24 hours)
January 26 to 8am January 28
Emergency care only between 8am on Tuesday January 26 and 8am on Thursday January 28 (48 hours)
Full withdrawal of labour between 8am and 5pm on Wednesday February 10
Patient safety is NLaG priority during any NHS industrial action and contingency plans are now being put in place to ensure disruption to patients is kept to a minimum. NLaG plans will exclude reliance on locum/agency workers who cannot be used to cover for striking workers.
All emergency and inpatients at Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole hospitals will be treated as usual during the proposed days of industrial action. Patients who have appointments on these dates for outpatient clinics, diagnostic tests or surgery will be contacted directly to notify them if their appointment is being cancelled.
NLaG emergency care centres at Scunthorpe and Grimsby,NLaG minor injuries unit at Goole, and all our emergency care services including theatres, hyperacute stroke unit, high dependency units and intensive care units will all be running as normal.
NLaG will be encouraging members of the public who are considering going to A&E on these dates to please only attend if it is a genuine emergency and to consider alternative options for minor ailments.
At this stage NLaG are unsure exactly what effect the strike action may have, but are planning to ensure that patients needing treatment during the period will be seen and treated appropriately, and that patients already staying with NLaG continue to receive high quality care and treatment.
Any patient who has any concerns on the day itself should contact our patient advice and liaison service on either (01472) 875403 for Grimsby or (01724) 290132 for Scunthorpe and Goole.
