FREE NHS Health Check


Healthwatch North Lincolnshire is hosting NHS Health Checks with the North Lincolnshire Healthy Lifestyle Team at Normanby Gateway on Thursday 20th September between 9am to 5pm.

Why do I need an NHS Health Check?

We know that your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia increases with age. There are also certain things that will put you at even greater risk such as being overweight, being physically inactive, not eating healthily, drinking too much alcohol and smoking. A free NHS Health Check can help you reduce these risks and help you stay healthy.


Who can have an NHS Health Check?

You can have a free Health Check if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are aged 40 to 74
  • Are registered with a GP in North Lincolnshire
  • Have not had an NHS Health Check in the last 5 years
    • Have not been diagnosed with or are currently receiving treatment or medication for the following conditions:
      • coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,, atrial fibrillation, transient ischaemic attack, heart failure, peripheral arterial disease or stroke


What happens at an NHS Health Check?

  • The check will take about 20 to 30 minutes
  • You’ll be asked some simple questions about your family medical history and your lifestyle choices
  • Your weight, height, age, sex and ethnicity will be recorded
  • You’ll have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked


What happens after the NHS Health Check?

You’ll be taken through your results and told what they mean. You’ll be given personalised advice on how to lower your risk and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  You may be referred to your GP for further tests or medication/ treatment.
