Ear, Nose & Throat Inpatients centralised
Northern Lincolnshire & Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG) have taken the decision to centralise two of their inpatient services. From 1st September 2017, patients from North Lincs requiring inpatient Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) services will be treated at Grimsby’s Diana Princess of Wales Hospital. Outpatient services continue to be provided at both sites.
Over time the number of clinical staff available to deliver these services across the two sites has reduced, whilst demand continues to grow. NLaG have taken this decision to maintain patient safety and to ensure patients do not have a poor experience as a result of transfers between the two hospitals to suit available staffing levels. The changes have been agreed to ensure the service that is provided is safe and effective.
Kirsten Spark, Delivery Manager, Healthwatch North Lincolnshire said: “In this case, the staffing situation has reduced to such a point that action needs to be taken swiftly to ensure the safety of patients receiving these services. However, it’s vitally important that the Trust take account of how the changes affect patients & carers. As the independent voice of local people, Healthwatch is ready to listen to people’s experiences and present these to the Trust for consideration as the new centralised services develop.”
